Skepticlawyer’s Sydney blogmeet
I’ll be in Sydney for work stuff in mid-December, and have earmarked December 16 (that’s a Saturday) to meet up with Sydney bloggers and other interested parties. Jason over at Catallaxy is in charge of time and venue (I know very little about Sydney). I’ve also got a bit of spare time otherwise, so a convivial libertarian dinner on another night is on the cards, too.

Catallaxy Files- What caused the recessions in Europe, Asia and Australia? February 8, 2012It is the middle of the night but cannot sleep so I have been reading Thomas E. Wood’s Meltdown which is a very interesting discussion of the causes of the Global Financial Crisis. Wood is trying to demonstrate that the GFC here in the US was caused by government interference in the housing market but [...]Steve Kates
- Property rights and revenue models February 8, 2012I’m sure everyone has heard about the Optus copyright ruling. The Federal Court has ruled Optus is not breaching copyright by allowing customers to watch sporting matches shown on free-to-air TV on a short delay through its mobile TV Now service. What Optus have done is effectively sell remote access to your video recorder. People [...]Sinclair Davidson
- Stephen v Stephen: University quality February 8, 2012A bit of a spat has broken out between Stephen King and Stephen Matchett. King is the soon to be former Dean of Business at Monash University and Matchett is a higher education analyst at The Australian. It started with this post and conclusion. Unfortunately, unlike universities in many countries, Australian higher education has become [...]Sinclair Davidson

inCISe- Auto industry privileges are irresponsible February 8, 2012A program of perpetual subsidies for any industry is both economically irresponsible and morally unfair. Over the past weeks, there has been a resurgence of protectionist rhetoric and anticompetitive industry policy. Under the rationale of preserving a domestic manufacturing sector and saving local jobs, the federal government has renewed its assistance for […]Alexander Philipatos
- Dr Hartwich ‘economist extraordinaire’ February 6, 2012All tickets have sold for tonight’s fiscal talk by Oliver Marc Hartwich. He will address Europe’s mess some call the economy, and look at the growing opportunities available in Asia for Australia. If you were unlucky and didn’t secure a ticket, don’t fret, a full video recording of the talk will be availabe in the coming days. In the […]Editor
- Time to drop the Dick February 5, 2012Flanked by five busty blondes and a chihuahua, ex-entrepreneur Dick Smith created a media stir in August 2010 when he announced an award of $1 million for the brightest idea to stop population growth and find an alternative to economic growth. The competition was open to anyone under the age of 30 and due to be awarded within 12 months. A year and a half lat […]Oliver Marc Hartwich

That’s almost sounds good enough to motivate me down to Sydney for a few days. Perhaps we should call a LDP strategy meeting for the same time.
Sounds like a good idea. I’m not sure where I’ll be for the first two nights (I’ll find out in due course), but after that I’ll be in Coogee with friends. I won’t have a car (I’m being flown down); the various social activities planned will determine how long I stay.
I work in the CBD and I’m usually good for a coffee. Send me an email at terje.petersEn at gmail dot com and I’ll give you a number. Else get Jason to do so.
Jason’s organising a libertarian dinner separate from the main blogmeet. Email him for details, Terje.
heck Terje, I had no idea you were a Sydney sider.
I always assumed you were a Queenslander.
Geez, I just left a message on Catallaxy about this and you’re all over here.
I agree with Humphreys. An LDP meet would be a good move. We have a lot to talk about, including Queensland.
Perhaps Terje will come too and provide his DOB so his membership will help get the party registered.
The LDP meeting needn’t be confined to the Friday night (the 15th), either (where work will have me tied up until about 8pm). The 16th is the main blogmeet I flagged on Catallaxy, obviously. However, I can stay in Sydney until Monday or Tuesday of that week if required. Maybe both dinner and a meeting is in order.
Wherever you go for the grogblog, just be visible to us poor people whose eyes have been destroyed by too much staring at a computer screen.
Jason,
Heck no. Their all nuts up there. Too much sunshine I suspect. I was up there a few weeks ago for the first time in about a decade to visit my sister and everybody seemed to be having way too much fun.
I grew up on a farm outside Coffs Harbour (NSW) but I’ve lived in Sydney since 1989 when I moved down to go to UNSW. I’m 36 and I’ve been driving a ’94 coomodore for 8 years now (it’s my first car). I run an IT consultancy in the CBD with my brother. Married with 3 kids. Did I mention that we pay too much tax?
Regards,
Terje.
I’ll redo my braids just for you ff. A six foot blond with cornrows should stand out in the crowd
Where can I get an email address for Jason?
catallaxy AT yahoo DOT com
Drinking and talking politics…, I’m keen!
Can avid readers of the Thoughts on Freedom and Catallaxy come along?
That’s the whole idea, Stephen! Jason is going to do a blogbash post over at Catallaxy once all the details have been ironed out.
Very good idea. Real live libertarians, all in a bunch. I’ll try to make it. Please keep us posted with details of when and where.
Details here, Justin.
damn it. I’ll be in Sydney on the 25th, 26th. If the two things were a bit closer I’d reschedule flights, but that’s a bit far apart.
