Oz Ideas
An interesting idea. A wiki forum to help Kevin Rudd think of policy ideas.
On April 19, 2008, Kevin Rudd is inviting 1000 “experts” for the Australia 2020 Summit to come up with Australia’s next big idea. For the rest of the 20,699,000 people in Oz, here’s our forum to list and vote on the best ideas to improve Australia.
Have fun.

- Not all recessions are caused by the Fed February 10, 2012More middle of the night blogging. My economics is classical. The almost perfect overlay of my own book can be found in a series of notes taken by Nicholas Kaldor at the LSE in 1927-29 from lectures delivered by the great American economist, Allyn Young. These notes were only published around a decade ago but [...]Steve Kates
- Where’s Romney? February 10, 2012It is quite extraordinary to watch the American political process up close. Now, I admit I have been busy and I don’t watch much of the television and do not read a lot of the press. But before I arrived the thing I did want to do was see more of Mitt Romney since from [...]Steve Kates
inCISe- More on PHI rebate means test February 10, 2012When I wrote in Incise yesterday, ‘Rebate should not be means tested,’ I did not expect events to move quite as quickly as they have. The government seems confident it has the numbers to get the means test through. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rob Oakshott and Andrew Wilkie have indeed swallowed the government’s nonsensical arguments, but it will be interestin […]Robert Carling
- Quiggin versus Carling and Kirchner February 9, 2012John Quiggin accuses Robert Carling and I of ‘an appalling breach of elementary standards of research’ for not acknowledging that Alberto Alesina’s work on the effectiveness of fiscal stimulus and consolidations is ‘highly controversial.’ In fact, we referenced Alesina’s work precisely because it has featured so prominently in public debate, including in the […]Stephen Kirchner
- Police going too far February 9, 2012According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, police are lecturing parents for letting their children walk to the shops or catch a bus on their own, with senior police saying such incidents will be reported to the Department of Community Services (DOCs) if a child is considered at risk. But when is a child ‘at risk’? One mother was told it was inappr […]Sara Hudson

The YouTube video on that page makes me sick.
Already found a few ideas I support though… and they aren’t all getting voted against. Seems there is hope yet.
Seems to be one or two LDP policies mentioned as ideas… perhaps from one of the locals?
Might be worth listing Thoughts On Freedom on the ‘Promote your Site’ page:

As they say vote early, vote often.
Wetpaint is a crap wiki and hardly warrants being called a wiki.
It is blocked by my work server as a “Social(ist) Networking” site!
The youtube video on the site made me chuckle. Personally I think it is wise for Brendon Nelson to play the bipartisan approach for now. The Liberals are best off looking humble because until they revamp their policy strategy they don’t have a vast amount to say. Also Rudd is super popular at the moment and in politics it sometimes makes sense to hang out with popular people. It makes sense for Rudd to play the game because it makes him look magnanimous and inclusive. However politics will get back to normal soon enough. The current ALP honeymoon won’t last forever.
Being humble doesn’t mean agreeing to everything… They could agree not to block something in the senate, but advertise their objection to it. That way they get bragging rights when it goes south.
Yes but do all the Liberal MPs object? Brendan Nelson is managing disagreement within his own ranks. I think he is better placed to do this successfully than Turnbull. I think Nelson is doing a good job. He is making room for the party to reconnect with it’s grass roots by holding off on specifics. He can’t do this forever but for now it is the right strategy (IMHO).
Pollies have these summits when they are bereft of ideas and lack the courage to tackle the difficult issues. It is all just an expensive distraction.Bob Hawke had them and nothing of substance ensued.
Real leaders can smell and taste the reality themselves and know the way forward.Kevin does not inspire me.He is a practised bureauocrat who will put his own survival before the welfare of the masses.
