LA County bans McDonald’s expecting Nobu or Rockpool to take its place
Two groups nanny staters detest are fat people and smokers. LA county is doing its bit to try and stamp out fat people. Head in a south westerly direction, cross the equator and you end up in NSW. There the focus is on smokers.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles City Council has approved a one-year moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a low-income area of the city.
The moratorium unanimously approved Tuesday is a bid to attract restaurants that offer healthier food choices to residents in a 32-square-mile area of South Los Angeles.
Councilwoman Jan Perry says residents at five public meetings expressed concern with the proliferation of fast-food outlets in the community plagued by above-average rates of obesity.
Nearly three-quarters of the restaurants in South L.A. are fast-food outlets. That’s a higher percentage than other parts of the city but the restaurant industry says the moratorium won’t help bring in alternatives.

Meanwhile NSW does it’s bit to stamp on out smokers
NSW smokers to face nation’s toughest laws
Which are:
New South Wales is set to be the first state to ban the display of cigarettes behind shop counters with the introduction of the nation’s toughest tobacco laws.
Under the changes, tobacco products will have to be stored out of sight in shops and supermarkets, and smoking in cars with children under the age of 16 will be banned.
Yes, smokers only have habit recall when they see rows of cigs stacked up in a shop. This is a scientifically proven theory
. Hide them and a smoker will never get the urge again.
Sounding tough like he’s just broken a child sex ring:
Mr Iemma says parents who are caught smoking around children will be fined $250 on-the-spot
Wheel out the requisite professor when you need a stamp of approval and authority (there are plenty of those time rich gas bags around):
A professor of Public Health at Sydney University, Simon Chapman, says it is a huge step forward for tobacco control.
Next law: ban sneezing while driving with underage kids in the back.
